3 Summer Houses
Platanias, Crete
Hotel Renovation
4* Resort
Description
The three summer houses are located in a tourist resort in northern Crete along the coastal road axis, on the boundary of a unified landscape consisting of hotel complexes, restaurants and consumer stores (with references to issues of folklore and authenticity) and the rural area of the hinterland. The residences, which are intended for touristic development, are constructed in a new olive grove and are organized in three areas on the plot, separated by low stone walls, and adjacent plots. The intention is to develop a wider living space between each house and the pool area within the boundaries of the stone wall perimeter, among the trees. The design strategy puts emphasis on the clarity of volumes and materials, along with the pursuit of purity and simplicity of manipulations to create a modern, tranquil and introverted atmosphere in a heterogeneous environment burdened by signs and multiple identities.
