Solonos Str, Athens
Solonos str. presents a strict urban facade, mainly through multistory housing of the 60’s and 70’s, that have adapted their function to the commercial nature of the area. The new building differentiates itself from the building typology of its environment: It is drawn backwards from the building line as a volume and the created intermediate space between the semitransparent skin of the facade and the section of the building is the transition of the interior activity to the city and vice versa. The geometry and the materiality of the exterior surface change the perception of the building according to the position of the observer. If the observer is found on the street level the building is opaque. On the contrary, when the observer is found on the higher floors of the apartment block right across the street the building is transparent.
