The assignment concerned the design of a restaurant as a 50s American Diner. The site of the new restaurant is a store on Platanias Square, a tourist destination settlement in the northern coast of Crete. The surroundings are extremely heterogeneous, busy and noisy, with shops of many different types and identities, colors, illuminated signs and crowds. The initial gesture of the design proposal opens the whole facade of the store onto the street and the interior becomes an extension of the square. Patterns are used as references to the motifs of the floors of old diners, slightly transformed in a complex and modern version. Patterns, large prints, vinyl fabric, colors, screens, metal details and glossy surfaces form an equally dynamic environment as the street ambiance.
